Alaska Airlines Launches #MillionMealsChallenge

Despite the stressful situation that we are currently facing with the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve seen some overwhelming displays of kindness and generosity all over the world. One of these demonstrations of the goodness in humanity is the #MillionMealsChallenge launched by Alaska Airlines.

The company recently announced that they have donated over one million meals to food banks to help with ongoing efforts to ensure food security for struggling people. The company’s $200,000 donation has supported food banks in Alaska, California, Hawaii, Oregon and Washington. This kind of support regularly puts food on the table for families in need and is particularly essential in times like these, where there has been a huge increase in unemployment.

The coronavirus pandemic has seen a general soar in demand for food banks and a drop in donations; the situation certainly calls for generosity as shown by Alaska Airlines and many other companies looking to do good. As well as their own donations, the airline is also encouraging guests and employees throughout the month of May to donate to their local food banks or to one of their hunger relief partners.

Meanwhile, American Airlines has also donated 25,000 meals to community kitchens through a partnership with the LEE Restaurant Workers Relief Program. They’ve also sent supplies to hospitals in New York, Massachusetts and Tennessee to support hospital workers and patients during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The airline industry is certainly facing a huge amount of adversity at this time, but it’s inspiring to see charitable efforts continue to be made.
