ONYX Hospitality makes first foray into Vietnamese market

Thailand’s ONYX Hospitality Group is venturing into Vietnam for the first time, and opening new properties in Sri Lanka and China.

It will make its first foray into the Vietnam market when OZO Hoi An opens its doors in early 2017.

The beachfront resort in the New Hoi An City area will be the largest OZO so far, with 364 rooms.

Peter Henley, chief executive at ONYX Hospitality Group, said: “Vietnam is one of the region’s fastest growing travel destinations and we are excited to have OZO Hoi An as part of our continuing expansion plans. With the increasing popularity of Vietnam’s South Central Coast among regional and international visitors, we have identified a gap in the market for a select service hotel like OZO.”

Following the opening of its first hotels in 2013, the OZO brand is now available in five locations in Hong Kong; Pattaya and Koh Samui, in Thailand; and Colombo and Kandy in Sri Lanka. There are several OZO hotels in the development pipeline, in locations such as Penang and Johor Bahru in Malaysia, and the southern Chinese city of Xiamen.

ONYX Hospitality Group operates four hotel brands – Saffron, Amari, Shama and OZO – across the Indian Ocean, Arabian Gulf and Asia-Pacific regions.

Also scheduled for an early 2017 opening, Amari Galle will be the first Amari in Sri Lanka and the third ONYX property in the country overall, adding to the already established OZO Kandy Sri Lanka and OZO Colombo Sri Lanka.

Another first for the group, Amari Yangshuo Guilin will open as the first Amari in China in the second quarter of 2017. The hotel will be next to one of the most historical streets of downtown Yangshuo, and offer easy access to the area’s scenic attractions including peaks, rivers, caves and temples.

These key new openings set ONYX on its way to achieving its strategic goal of operating 81 properties by 2018.
