Marvellous Malta

Valletta takes centre stage this year on the Malta stand as the country’s tourism authority highlights the huge programme of events that have been organised as part of the city’s status as European Capital of Culture 2018.

The accolade recognises Valletta’s role in driving cultural, social and economic regeneration across the Maltese archipelago through collaboration, exchange and innovative practice.

The achievement will be celebrated with a series of events across the islands throughout 2018.
ILGA-Europe, the European region of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, announced in May 2017 that Malta has been ranked the number-one travel destination on the Europe Rainbow Index 2017 for the second year running.

Out of a total of 49 European countries, Malta has been awarded an impressive 88% in regards to laws and policies impacting the lives of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Queer (LGBTQ) people.

Malta’s winning margin increased to an impressive 10% in 2017 ahead of Norway and the UK.
The archipelago also legalised gay marriage in July 2017, firmly cementing its status as the top destination for the LGBTQ community.

Home to a thriving gastronomy scene, the Malta Tourism Authority has commissioned a special map to showcase its popular foodie spots and hidden gems.
Tourists and locals alike can follow the trail across the archipelago and find the best places to sample traditional Maltese delicacies and local wine.
From carefully crafted red wine produced at the San Niklaw Estate to fresh fenkata at Ta’ Philip, the islands will tantalise the taste buds of all who visit.
