French architect Jean Nouvel has based his design for the National Museum of Qatar on the desert.

The use of interlocking disk evokes the relationship between the Qatari people, the desert and the sea reflecting Qatar’s culture, history and traditions.

It is due to open in spring 2019

In the past year Qatar’s improved tourism offer saw the opening of the first Mandarin Oriental hotel in the state. It is also home to the world’s first Angry Birds theme park which opened in Doha in 2018.
