Antigua Great House is sweet on sustainability

The Antigua & Barbuda Tourism Authority will continue to promote sailing and watersports, romance and wellness as this year’s WTM London, the event where ideas arrive.

Antigua is host to the region’s biggest regatta, Antigua Sailing Week, each spring. It will run for the 53rd time in 2020, from 25th April – 1st May.

New hotel openings include The Royalton Antigua featuring the first overwater bungalows in Antigua. The luxury adults-only Hammock Cove Resort is set to this December and boasts its own private, protected bay.

The Great House Antigua, a 350-year-old sugar plantation, is expanding with four new cottage suites. They will have their own solar panels and cistern water, caught from the nightly rain. Part of the sustainability push includes fresh produce grown on the estate, and any additional fresh produce being purchased locally on the day, and no plastic water bottles..

And the Hermitage Bay hotel has started working with a local entrepreneur who converts used cooking oil to biodiesel.

Capacity from the UK will increase, with Virgin Atlantic adding a fourth flight from London Gatwick to Antigua a week from June 2020. The service will move onto the A330-300, increasing upper class capacity by 63% and will open up more hub connections from across the UK.
