Bahrain adds another UNESCO award

The Dilmun Burial Mounds in Bahrain have been designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Built between 2050 and 1750 BCE, the site includes more than 11,000 mounds that signify evidence of the Early Dilmun civilisation around the 2nd Millennium BC.  Most of the mounds are intact and remaining unexcavated.

Elsewhere, Bahrain is now home to the world’s largest underwater theme park, covering more than 100,000 square metres. The centrepiece of the dive site is a decommissioned Boeing 747 which sit 20 metres below the surface and has been fully decontaminated of toxic substances. It will also feature artificial coral reefs.

Getting to and staying in Bahrain is getting easier. Nine new hotels are in the pipeline, with a new international airport terminal set to open.
