Attitude Hotels has been awarded B Corp certification. The Mauritian hotel group is now part of a community of companies that are certified as beneficial to humans and the living world. B Corp is one of the most difficult international certifications to obtain and requests a demanding evaluation process to prove good corporate practice regarding social, societal and environmental impact.
Attitude Hotels has eight 3* and 4* hotels on the island of Mauritius, as well as 5* Paradise Cove Boutique Hotel. 2025 will see the company expand to new shores with a hotel opening on the island of Zanzibar. Attitude’s ethos is ‘Hotels that do good’, and the group joins a collective movement of companies united around shared values and concrete ambitions.
Attitude Hotels has been focused on having a beneficial impact on the local economy, community and environment for the past 15 years and is now a purpose-driven company. Vincent Desvaux de Marigny, CEO of Attitude, says: “Since our creation in 2008, we’ve made some bold choices that didn’t always tick the traditional hotel boxes. But they were always in line with our values and our commitment to more responsible travel. Obtaining B Corp certification proves that these choices were the right ones!”

The demanding evaluation process meant Attitude Hotels spent 18 months gathering data and answering 280 questions on specific criteria, including environment, employees, governance, customers and community. Attitude Hotels submitted over 400 documents proving its commitment to each criteria, and strengthened practices through the process.
To achieve the company’s score of 93, Attitude Hotels has spent 15 years setting goals and actions to offer holidays that are good for those who experience them (customers), as well as those who make them happen (the Attitude team and stakeholders). All while respecting the natural world.
Key actions are focused on Family Members (staff), the local community, the environment and customers. Here are just a few of the actions taken:
- Attitude has been named a Great Place to Work accreditation
- Profit-sharing is available to all employees
- Support for local events (such as festivals and concerts), entrepreneurial projects and local artists
- Local collaborations wherever possible (decor, supplies and more)
- 52% of the food and drink offered in the hotels is Made in Moris
- No full minibars in the rooms to avoid unnecessary packaging. Instead, visit the hotel Bulk Shop!
- Complimentary mineral sunscreen is available to limit the impact of chemical filters in the lagoon
- A Marine Discovery Centre dedicated to preserving the marine and coastal environment. The centre is staffed by marine biologists and funded by the Attitude Foundation
- 100% local Otentik experiences, including having dinner with a local family
- 30% of dishes are vegetarian or vegan in Attitude’s 4* hotels
- Zero single-use plastic in the guest experience
B Corp is not for life. Companies must continue their hard work and apply to renew their status every three years. The past 15 years have defined a roadmap for Attitude Hotels to follow in the coming years. Currently, Attitude Hotels is redeveloping a hotel in Matemwe, Zanzibar, and preparing for launch in 2025. Vincent Desvaux de Marigny, CEO of Attitude, says: Our mission is to create more sustainable experiences for travellers, rooted in the local community and punctuated by human encounters. We look forward to the journey ahead.”
