New York’s museums and galleries gear up for major art exhibitions

New York’s tourist board, NYC & Company, will be promoting a host of world-class art exhibitions that can be seen in the city’s famous museums and galleries next year.

The Metropolitan Museum of Art will celebrate its 150th anniversary throughout 2020, with events and exhibitions exploring its past and looking into the future.

The Museum of Modern Art – which reopened in October 2019 after a major expansion – will feature an exhibition of modern Latin American art, while its David Geffen Wing will display works from the likes of Jasper Johns and Jackson Pollack.

The Brooklyn Museum will hold an exhibition of works by French artist JR (October 2019-May 2020) and the Museum of Moving Image will host Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, featuring costumes, props and footage from the classic sci-fi film (January-July 2020).

The New York Botanical Garden will exhibit work by Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama, including her famous mirrored environments and colossal polka-dot sculptures of flowers and pumpkins (May-November 2020).

Also new is Fotografiska, the Stockholm-based photography museum, which opened in New York in October 2019, bringing a mix of photography, culture, dining and entertainment to the Flatiron district of Manhattan.
