Portuguese airline TAP Air Portugal will increase its capacity to the US and Brazil in summer 2020.
It will increase the number of flights between Lisbon and New York/JFK from one to two a day, while its Lisbon-New York/Newark and Porto-Newark services will both become daily services.
Flights to Miami will increase from seven to ten per week, and the new routes to Washington DC and Chicago will become daily flights.
TAP will also invest in Brazil, increasing flights to Natal and Belem from three to five times a week, with its new A321LR aircraft.
The new services will build on the expansion seen in 2018 – when the number of seats increased by 12% – and 2019, when capacity rose by 9%.
However, the airline said that “uncertainties in customer demand associated with Brexit” and overcapacity on routes from London meant it had to suspend its London City Airport services.
Instead, it is operating bigger aircraft from other London bases at Heathrow and Gatwick during peak periods.
