Heart of the Dolomites’ urges holidaymakers to switch off from technology

A new tourist board promoting the Dolomites will exhibit for the first time at WTM London 2019 to showcase its digital-detox tourism.

The Heart of the Dolomites’ has been created by seven municipalities in northern Italy to attract visitors from around the world to the mountainous region, which is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage area.

Emma Taveri, Marketing Manager for Heart of the Dolomites’, said the region features “amazing” mountains such as Marmolada and Mount Civetta, with year-round attractions.

Visitors can take part in activities that range from the chilled and relaxing – such as sunrise yoga on a mountain-top – to adrenaline sports, such as zip-lining, ski-ing, snowboarding and mountain climbing.

“We are designing a completely new way of experiencing our mountains with no technology and totally mind-and-soul recharging experiences,” she said.

“We are exhibiting at WTM London in order to position Heart of the Dolomites’ as the ideal destination to ‘recharge in nature’, both in winter and summer.”

In July 2019, the tourist board ran a contest called Recharge in Nature, offering 10 winners a digital detox holiday in the Dolomites to relax and recharge.

It went viral and was mentioned in many newspapers and podcasts, quickly generating more than 19,000 applications from across the world.

Taveri said: “At WTM London, we want to meet travellers and buyers interested in our products, which range from winter mountain sports to summer trekking and hiking sports.

“We are also creating a special offer for digital-detox experiences and itineraries in our mountains, sleeping in authentic refuges and traditional accommodation.”

The team will also attend WTM workshops and conferences, to learn about trends and business tips for local tourism operators.

The municipalities that are working together on Heart of the Dolomites are Rocca Pietore, Alleghe, Livinallongo del Col di Lana, Colle Santa Lucia, San Tomaso Agordino, Taibon Agordino and Cencenighe.
