The third day of the event, 4/04, includes the participation of Alex Leite, the institution’s Education Director, who will talk about trends in digital transformation in the world of tourism and give his own insights into the matter
WTM Latin America, the leading global event for the travel industry in Latin America, which takes place on 2 – 4 April 2 to 4 at Expo Center Norte in São Paulo, has on its agenda a range of subjects that go to make up the Inspire Theatre’s programme content. Among the conferences that will be enlightening the theatre’s audiences is one entitled “Digital Transformation in Tourism”, given by Alex Leite, Education Director of the Live University’s Business School. The meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, 4 April, from 14:45 until 15:15, and is open to all participants at the event; just register at the fair and attend at the time scheduled for the conference to begin.
Among the topics the executive will address are the importance and impact of digital transformation in the world of tourism; the customer’s new “journey” and the power of personalization; and how machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) are going to modify current processes.
Another subject that will be discussed during Leite’s talk is augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) in tourism, which are being increasingly focused on for attracting and generating business in various industries.
Leite believes we are undergoing a major age transformation, which is no longer industrial and is increasingly migrating to the digital age, and becoming fully connected and integrated. “Professionals need to be aware that technology is constantly and rapidly changing. For any industry, and this includes tourism, digital inclusion in companies is essential, whether involving their processes, products or services”, stresses Leite. “It is fundamental for ensuring they are up-to-date and for a more sustainable chain, thus avoiding the loss of market that has happened with several companies that have ignored the tools that complement and innovate in their business”, she adds. The speaker also emphasises a second point of utmost importance during his debate: career sustainability. “Professionals need to be constantly updating their careers, as this strengthens their employability and inclusion in the job market.”
Another issue that will be addressed during the session is Blockchain, another trend mentioned by the executive. “Keeping track of a whole chain, not depending on intermediaries – and in a highly secure way, since the data are stored forever and encrypted – is one of the benefits of this technology that has been gaining space in tourism and contributing to the industry’s performance”.
Open to: travel and tourism professionals; press (credentials restricted to publishers, journalists, photographers, broadcasters and bloggers/influencers); government authorities and “Buyers” (only buyers who fit the programme criteria can be issued with a WTM Buyers’ Club badge).
