WTM Latin America & the Braztoa Business Event bring together more than 1,300 representatives from the trade in activities in Latin America

The event’s team visited eight countries in South America and Central América
The promotional action in Bogotá brought together 83 representatives of the Colombian travel industry.

Latin America was the scene of a series of events held by WTM Latin America and the Brazilian Tour Operators Association (Braztoa) between September 2016 and January this year. Six promotional actions in all took place, visiting eight countries in which some 1,340 tourism trade professionals from the region were impacted. Among these were representatives from tourism bodies, embassies, travel agents, operators, luxury tourism product buyers and hosted buyers.

The purpose behind the Programme of Promotional Actions is to further strengthen the relationship with the market in Latin America, to present the opportunities that will be available to participants in the 2017 edition and to create initiatives for publicizing destinations, according to the needs of each country.

The strategy behind the activities was to seek new markets in Central America, with meetings being held between the WTM Latin America team and representatives from the tourism trade in Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panamá and El Salvador. In South America the action focused initially on already consolidated markets, with presentations in hotels in Buenos Aires and Bogotá. In trying to develop new markets, the representatives of the event also held workshops in La Paz and Santa Cruz de La Sierra, jointly with the Bolivian Tourism Ministry.

According to Lawrence Reinisch, director of WTM Latin America, the actions presented real, new business opportunities. “We were able to accompany the initiatives that the Latin American market is conducting to create interest in travellers from the leisure and corporate segments, not only from the traditional outbound centres, the USA and Western Europe, but also from other parts of the world”, says the executive, reiterating that the Latin American travel trade is increasingly understanding the need to work together, which will be patent in our next edition in São Paulo, from 4 – 6 April, 2017”.
