World WTM Latin America to hold debates with the world’s important political leaders

A cycle of debates named “Destinations Leading Recovery” to be held with political representatives from Egypt, Jamaica, Portugal and Greece

São Paulo, July 07th 2021 – On August 10, 11 and 12, WTM Latin America Virtual will be held, the most important event in Latin America for the travel industry. In its 9th edition, the online fair will feature the participation of the Resilience Council and representatives from leading countries in recovery through selected strategies. With four 30-minute sessions, each representative will bring the learnings of this pandemic year, and the visions and expectations for the future market.

Among them, Ghada Shalaby, Vice Minister Tourism, Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities
– Arab Republic of Egypt, Edmund Bartlett, Minister of Tourism for Jamaica, Rita Marques, Secretary of State for Tourism for Portugal, and Haris Theoharis, Minister of Tourism for Greece
will attend this event. The interview with these prominent world leaders will be host by Peter Greenberg of PBS / CBS News. Well-known in North America, the journalist is an investigative reporter, travel writer and producer, and has received several Emmy awards during his career. Greenberg is also known in the travel industry as “The Travel Detective” and hosts The Royal Tour, showcasing nations in a way that no visitor has ever seen before.

Day 10, at 8:00 AM

In office since 2019, the vice minister will bring to the chat the initiatives promoted by this travel destination focused on the recovery of the industry. As a case in point, Ghada presents the Egyptian government’s efforts to develop new attractions, cities and villages and the recreation of ancient activities, such as the “Mummy Parade,” uniting creativity, tradition, and cultural heritage in the reconstruction of this travel destination. The vice minister holds a bachelor’s degree in tourism from Helwan University in Cairo and has stints with Egypt Air, British Airways, American Express Travel, and Card Services.

Day 11, at 8:00 AM

The co-chair of the Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council and global advocate for travel safety will talk to Greenberg about the Jamaica Cares program developed by Jamaica. The Minister will explain the policies implemented for travelers in transit visiting the country, as well as the actions taken to minimize pressure in the country and health systems in the event of natural disaster or civil disturbance.

Rita Marques, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Tourism 
Day 12, at 3:00 PM

Rita has held the position of Secretary of State for Tourism in Portugal since 2019 and will bring to the discussion the €6 billion investment made by Portugal to support the tourism industry and business. The Secretary will also present the role of sustainability within this recovery process and the support offered to SMEs.

Haris Theoharis, Greek Minister of Tourism

Day 12, at 8:00  

Theoharis serves as Minister of Tourism in Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ Cabinet and is a member of the Hellenic Parliament for New Democracy. He will present Greece’s case within the recovery process to stimulate tourism and keep the country as a safe destination.
