WTM Latin America extends registration deadline for Responsible Tourism Award and broadens debate on regenerative tourism

WTM Latin America announced the extension of the registration period for the 2026 Responsible Tourism Award, and can now be submitted until February 13. The decision aims to boost participation of projects and destinations committed to sustainability and regeneration practices, especially driven by the rising interest in the new category dedicated to regenerative tourism.

Created to acknowledge destinations that already implement tangible environmental and social regeneration policies, the Best Regenerative Tourism Initiatives category is now part of the award’s six traditional categories and directly aligns with the WTM Latin America’s central theme. The proposal encourages the sector to shift from a mindset of “doing less harm” to one of “doing more good,” focusing on ecosystem restoration, community empowerment, and tangible benefits for local territories.

The expectation is that regenerative tourism will take center stage not only in the awards, but also throughout the WTM Latin America 2026 pavilion’s programming and debates. Bianca Pizzolito, Head of WTM Latin America, says that the extension of the deadline reinforces this movement. “Regenerative tourism will be at the center of discussions at this edition, and we are developing other initiatives to further consolidate WTM as a benchmark platform for this debate, which is so relevant to the future of the sector,” she points out.

As in previous editions, the application evaluation process will follow strict criteria, prioritizing measurable results, originality, and real impact on local communities. The awards ceremony will take place on the evening of April 15 at the Theater Transformation [Transformation Theater], as part of the program of the WTM Latin America, which will be held from April 14 to 16, 2026, at Expo Center Norte, in São Paulo.

Entries for the Responsible Tourism Award can be submitted in Portuguese, English or Spanish.
