Venetian Villas has won a prestigious World Travel Market 2014 World Travel Leaders Award.
The company received the coveted award today at the WTM World Travel Leaders Awards ceremony. The award was presented by L’Agenzia di Viaggi Publisher, Cristina Ambrosini and collected by Villevenete Ass. President Alberto’s daughter, Gaia Passi.
The Awards give WTM’s Official Media Partners – which represent key travel industry media around the world – an excellent platform to congratulate and recognise those companies and individuals that have made significant contributions to travel and tourism in their region or sector.
Three nominations from each of WTM’s media partners were judged in September by a panel of three, consisting of an independent body, a representative of WTM and the relevant media partner.
The group consists of 150 stylish villas, built between the 16th and 18th centuries. The villa owners belong to the Ville Venete association, founded in 1979 to promote tourism.
Under the brand VILLEVENETE and the creation of the website www.villevenetetour.it, the villas are now marketed to the world.
The group plans to develop a major cultural tourism project, involving not only the magnificent Venetian mansions on the mainland, but all the excellent attractions the area offers, including food, crafts, landscape and culture.
The project is timed to coincide with Expo 2015 and is aimed at travellers who want to discover Italian culture from a new point of view, and to the Italian public, who want to deepen knowledge of their own country.
Reed Travel Exhibitions, Senior Director, World Travel Market, Simon Press said: “Over the 30 years Venetian Villas has been one of the most important attractions of northern Italy. The fact that they are not all located in one place has proved not to be a barrier to the owners working and co-ordinating together. They have also risen to the challenge of the internet, meaning these beautiful, stylish villas are promoted to the rest of the world.”
