WTM Latin America 2017 & the 47th Braztoa Business Event will host the first Ministerial Round Table on Tourism as a Tool for Development

WTM Latin America will be hosting the first Ministerial Round Table on Tourism as a Tool for Development. The agenda will form part of the World Travel Market Latin America 2017, which will take place between 4 – 6 April in Expo Center Norte in São Paulo.

According to the event’s director, Lawrence Reinisch, hosting an event of this size leads to immense possibilities for the region’s tourism and reflects the importance the industry has for these countries.

On the morning of 5 April the ministers will discuss the integration of Latin American countries by way of intra-regional aviation and the promotion of destinations on integrated routes, which are topics of extreme relevance to the sector and its development in Latin America.

The proposal to hold annual round table between the region’s ministers was approved last November during the 37th edition of WTM London. At the time the authorities restated their commitment to work in a united way to maximize the potential and the visibility of corporate and leisure travel in Latin America.

“The highlight of the topics debated at the event was the importance of intra-regional tourism, which helps bring Latin American countries together, creates new ties and increases investments”, explains the director of WTM Latin America, Lawrence Reinisch.

According to Lawrence, another topic to be stressed and that was on the agenda at the event held during WTM London, were multi-destination packages, when tourists visit between two and four countries on a single trip. “The combined offer of cities and countries makes it possible for the traveller to have multiple experiences and contributes towards the economic integration of the countries involved”, adds the director.

The meeting in London also addressed the legacies of the 2014 World Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games of 2016. “We need to learn from the events held in Brazil and look for ways of taking advantage of them for attracting and winning small, medium and large events for Latin America”.

According to Brazil’s Minister of Tourism, Marx Beltrão, and the executive director of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), Márcio Favilla, cooperation and collaboration between countries is essential for developing tourism and keeping Latin America as the seat of large global events.

“One of the purposes behind WTM Latin America is to participate in including the region on the world tourism map once and for all. Bringing Latin America and the international market closer together is extremely relevant for the industry generally”, says Charlie Cracknell, Senior Exhibition Director for Reed Exhibitions.
