The Egyptian Tourism Authority registered a 56% increase in the number of tourists from Latin America in 2017
The setting for fascinating stories, great monuments and the mighty Nile River, Egypt will be present at WTM Latin America 2018 – the world’s number one event for the Latin American travel industry. The official Egyptian representative will be in Sao Paulo between April 3rd and April 5th, at Expo Center Norte, to take part in the 6th edition of the event.
According to Mohamed Mohsen Ismail, director of the Latin American and Iberian Peninsula unit of the international tourism sector of the Egyptian Tourism Promotion Council, the purpose of being at the segment’s main event in Latin America is to promote the destination in Brazil and in other countries of South America and Central America, in addition to boosting networking and business generation with tourism operators and analysing the sector’s global trends.
“WTM Latin America is one of the region’s most important events and we expect that the 2018 edition will be a success as it was in the previous years. For Egypt, Latin America is a market that has great potential, since tourists in the region usually have the capacity for long-stay trips” emphasizes the director.
During the three days of the event, visitors will have the opportunity to find out a bit more about the region’s main attractions. Among the things that will be on show this year will be Cultural Tourism, exhibiting Luxor, Aswan and Cairo, as well as the Sun & Sea route, which includes the Red Sea and the Mediterranean and the Holy Family route.
By means of increasing investment in airports and security, Egypt has been able to leverage the number of visitors. “In 2017 we had a 56% increase in the number of tourists from Latin America, vis-à-vis the previous year,” points out Ismail. The WTTC (World Travel & Tourism Council) expects that the country will receive more than 12,000 international tourists by 2027, representing an increase of 10% a year.
According to the WTTC, in 2016 investment in the tourism sector in Egypt represented roughly 11.9% of GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and the forecast is this that figure will rise to one of 12.4% over the next ten years.
“Egypt is already one of WTM Latin America’s traditional partner and its participation in the 6th edition of the event further strengthens the region for tourists from Latin America, especially Brazil, which is one of the points of focus of investment in the region”, explains Luciane Leite, WTM Latin America’s managing director.
