Vietnam Airlines Launches Nonstop Service to Munich

Vietnam Airlines has become the first Vietnamese airline to operate a non-stop service between Vietnam and Munich, the capital of Bavaria, Germany.

Vietnam Airlines welcomed flight crew and passengers on the inaugural flight VN35, which departed Hanoi for Munich at 00:05hrs on 5 October 2024. On the return flight, the airline hosted an inauguration ceremony at Munich International Airport attended by Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprise; Mr. Luu Xuan Dong, Consul General of Vietnam in Frankfurt; Mr. Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport; and numerous partners, travel companies and major customers of Vietnam Airlines.

Receptionists dressed in traditional Bavarian attire welcomed passengers and flight crew with gifts and flowers, and the flight was honoured with a water cannon salute before its departure at 13:35hrs local time.

Le Duc Canh, Executive Vice President of Vietnam Airlines, said the new direct service to Munich marks an important milestone in the airline’s international expansion strategy. Since the first flight connecting Vietnam and Germany 20 years ago, Vietnam Airlines has operated nearly 14,000 flights and transported over 3.1 million passengers between the two countries. The introduction of direct flights from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Munich will significantly strengthen trade and tourism and therefore the sustainable economic prosperity of the two countries.

The scheduled service between Hanoi and Munich will operate twice a week, with flights departing from Hanoi on Fridays and Sundays, and from Munich on Mondays and Saturdays.

From 7 October, Vietnam Airlines also serves direct flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Munich (VN33) once a week on Mondays, with the return flight on Tuesdays. Starting in December 2024, additional frequencies will depart from Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesdays and from Munich on Thursdays. All flights will be operated with modern wide-body aircraft, ensuring maximum passenger comfort on long haul flights.

Munich is a key economic, cultural, and tourism hub in Europe. For Vietnam Airlines, this market represents not only an important strategic destination but also a market rich with potential. The introduction of new flights to Munich brings the number of weekly services from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Frankfurt and Munich to a total of 14, providing exceptional convenience for Vietnamese travellers to explore Europe and beyond.
