For the first time at the World Travel Market London, the islands of Sicily are being promoted with their own stand this autumn.

The occasion will be used to market the new “Islands of Sicily” brand, which brings together the attractions and tourism services of the 15 islands surrounding Sicily: three archipelagos – the Aeolian islands (seven), the Egadi (three), the Pelagie (three) – plus Pantelleria and Ustica.

The brand focuses on eight overarching themes: the sea and nature, history and culture, landscapes and traditions, and food and wine. These themes have been used to develop a series of tourism packages targeted at international tour operators who work with groups or individual travellers seeking an enlightening and enriching vacation.

“Islands of Sicily” is also a licensed tour operating company whose members live and work on the islands. This strong local presence and in-depth knowledge of the islands allows them to offer the very best services to travellers.

As well as promoting the islands themselves as a Destination Marketing Organisation, “Islands of Sicily” aims to use the World Travel Market to identify some tour operators to partner with, who demonstrate that they have adequate reach and a genuine interest in the Sicilian islands as a holiday destination.

The brand provides a varied offer to satisfy the needs of older, retired travellers, people looking for an active holiday, and those who want to combine relaxation with discovering villages with a thousand-year history and a culture rich in deeply-rooted customs and traditions.

The Coastal Action Group (GAC) of the Islands of Sicily – which supports the initiative – is a local development agency which aims to foster connections between the worlds of artisanal fishing, tourism and typical local products, with fishermen playing such an important role in our island communities as well as acting as a cultural and tourist attraction.
