New England will be in the international spotlight during 2020, as communities on both sides of the Atlantic mark the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower.
The Plymouth 400 Anniversary will highlight the cultural contributions and American traditions that began with the interaction of the Wampanoag people and English settlers in 1620.
The region will host historical and cultural exhibitions, festivals and entertainment throughout 2020.
Next year also marks the bicentennial of the state of Maine which will see celebrations, educational events and commemorations.
Furthermore, the states of New Hampshire and Maine have created new itineraries with different themes such as the arts and adventure to encourage travellers to explore the regions.
The regional tourism authority, Discover New England, represents five states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.
As well as major 2020 events, Discover New England will highlight new hotels and leisure developments such as the recently opened $2 billion resort called Encore Boston Harbor, in Boston.
Also new is the Massachusetts Whale Trail along the state’s coastline, which features museums, attractions, historic sites and tours.
