Dubai Tourism confirms presence at WTM Latin America

In Latin America, Brazilians are the ones who most visit Dubai

Open to tourists since July 2020, Dubai Tourism will show its resilience during the pandemic

São Paulo, August 04th 2021 – Dubai Tourism has been confirmed as one of the exhibitors at WTM Latin America Virtual, the main event in the tourism segment aimed at the B2B public in Latin America, which takes place on August 10th, 11th and 12th. Other international destinations such as Maldives, Orlando and Poland have also confirmed their presence for this edition, which will feature participants from all over the world.

Despite the challenges presented by the pandemic, inbound tourism performance in Dubai surpassed the global average, following a trend that dates back to 2012. The city that has been receiving tourists since July 2020, received more than 5.5 million visitors in 2020 – alone. In the year 2021, Dubai has already recovered around 40% of the number of pre-pandemic visitation in the Latin American region.

Being present at the virtual event this year is an opportunity to present what the city has to offer for those traveling for leisure or business. “WTM Latin America Virtual is an important event for Dubai Tourism, especially during these challenging times for tourism. We are recognised as a safe destination by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and one of our goals during the WTM Latin America Virtual is precisely to reinforce this seal”, said Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Tourism.

Issam Kazim also highlights that this year we will inaugurate Expo 2020, a world exhibition that will bring together different sectors and is the first to be hosted by an Arab nation. “We will receive participants from all over the world, with an expected 70% of international visitors. We hope to deepen this conversation at the WTM Latin America Virtual and present all the opportunities that Expo 2020 can offer”, he completes.

In the Latin region, Brazilians lead the number of visits to Dubai. 2018 and 2019 were exceptional years, with double-digit growth: 12% and 21% respectively of the arrival of Brazilian tourists in the city. In 2019, Mexico became the second outbound market in the region, with an impressive growth of 52.5%. With new connectivity linking Mexico City to Dubai via Barcelona with Emirates Airline, Dubai Tourism expects Mexican travelers to further explore all that the city has to offer.

Having this example of cities and countries that have already opened their borders to travelers from around the world is enriching for the event, explains Simon Mayle, Exhibition Director at WTM Latin America. “Our objective when we organise each edition of the WTM Latin America is to have this exchange of experiences between exhibitors, travel agents, destinations and all participants. With Dubai Tourism this year, which is one of the places that has been receiving international visitors since July last year, there are many business and learning opportunities to offer”, Simon adds.

WTM Latin America is expecting to receive more exhibitors, including international operators, travel agencies and hotels.
