Tour operators will be present at WTM Latin America 2018

The event that takes place between April 3rd and April 5th brings operators and agencies from the international tourism market together and promotes the generation of business

WTM Latin America 2018 – the world’s leading event for the Latin American travel industry – will feature a number of domestic and foreign operators, some of which have already confirmed their presence at this edition of the event, which will take place between April 3rd and April 5th at the Expo Center Norte, in the city of São Paulo.

The foreign tour operator Iran Doostan will be returning to the 6th edition of the event, together with the domestic tour operators Newmon and Tourmed. Making its debut at this edition is the Portuguese travel agency Living Tours Viagens e Turismo, which has already got 13 years of experience and operates in Portugal and Spain. “The interest in taking part in WTM Latin America is linked to the fact that the event is one that is more heavily focused on the international market, and therefore involve a greater number of players from the Latin America tourism market”, stresses Rui de Carvalho Terroso, CEO – Living Tours. “We have taken part in other events held by WTM (in London and Dubai) for a number of years and they are very well organized events, with very interesting buyer programs and very good work tools, which have produced good results and great business for Living Tours, both in London as well as Dubai – and we hope that it will be the same here in Brazil”.

Another new face at the event is the English operator Viator International, which specializes in religious tourism. With more than 25 years’ experience in the market, Viator operates in Europe by means of its base in the UK, and in Latin American via its partner in Uruguay, Peregrinando s.r.l.

According to Luciane Leite, director of WTM Latin America, the operators and agencies play a fundamental role in the travel market, due to the fact that they are the ones who are responsible for creating and facilitating the tourists’ options. “In Brazil alone there are more than 36,000 travel agencies and operators that employ 69,654 people, so it is important to create an environment that allows operators to get closer to the destinations, hotels and investors, and to enable them to internationalize, giving a boost to the entire sector in America Latina”, declares Luciane Leite.

A recent survey that was carried out by the Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with Sebrae, indicates that in Brazil, 3.6% of GDP comes from the travel sector, which directly and indirectly employs roughly 2 million people. Out of these, 69,654 work at travel agencies and tour operators, of which there were a total of 36,003 units in Brazil in 2014.

The travel market has established itself as one of the most important ones in the world. The United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) estimates that by 2016, more than 1.2 billion people throughout the world have travelled. According to the institution, the average annual growth is one of 4%, having already registered 7 years in a row of growth.
