Hawai’i prepares to mark 75th anniversary of Pearl Harbour

Hawai’i will be in the global spotlight in December as it holds a series of events to mark the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbour.

The 75th commemorations take place from 1-11th December, and have been designed to attract thousands of overseas visitors as well as Hawai’i residents.

Events are being supported by the Hawai’i Tourism Authority (HTA) and it is estimated that media coverage will reach millions worldwide.

The main focus will be on National Pearl Harbour Remembrance Day on 7th December, to remember the attack which led to the US joining the Second World War.

Each year, more than a million visitors come to the Pearl Harbour Historic Sites to see the USS Arizona Memorial, the Battleship Missouri Memorial, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park, and Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbour.

A National Historic Landmark, Pearl Harbor is the most-visited attraction on Oahu – and it is also an active military base.

Hawai‘i Tourism Europe will be at World Travel Market London to promote the Pearl Harbour events, as well as other tourism developments on the Pacific islands.

The destination has seen the opening of several boutique and luxury hotels this year, including the Four Seasons Resort O‘ahu at Ko Olina, Surfjack Hotel and Swim Club, and Hilton Garden Inn Waikīkī.

Next year will see the opening of more properties, including the Westin Nanea Ocean Villas and Aliohilani Resort at Waikiki Beach.
