Kenya Tourism Board backs Born Free’s Year of the Lion campaign

Kenya Tourism Board will be supporting Born Free’s Year of the Lion campaign at World Travel Market London (7-9 November).

Born Free’s Year of the Lion in 2016 aims to highlight the plight of lions in the wild, as numbers have plummeted to fewer than 20,000 across Africa.

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Born Free, the film based on Joy Adamson’s book of the same name. It tells the tale of how Joy and her husband, George Adamson, raised an orphaned lion cub called Elsa to adulthood and released her into the wild in Kenya.

The stars of the film, Virginia McKenna and Bill Travers, later went on to set up the Born Free international wildlife charity in 1984.

Today, guests can stay at Joy’s Camp in Shaba National Reserve and Elsa’s Kopje in Meru National Park.
