Nevada offers more to visitors than the bright lights of Las Vegas. Visitors to its stand at this year’s WTM London will hear all about the state’s second city Reno, celebrating its 150th birthday in 2017/18.
Often known as the ‘biggest little city in the world’, Reno is also becoming known to a new generation of travellers as the “adventure capital of America”
Reno is close to Lake Tahoe and its surrounding ski resorts, while The Truckee River runs right through the town and is well-known as a kayaking hotspot.
Downturn adventurers can visit the Whitney Peak Hotel and try the world’s tallest climbing wall which forms the hotel’s exterior.
As a sign of its capacity for change, a Marriott Renaissance opened in Reno this April, first branded, non-gaming, full service hotel in town.
Another new property has opened this year, The Lodge at Edgewood Tahoe on the south shore of the lake close to the Heavenly ski resort. The project has taken a decade to complete and will feature 154 luxurious rooms, as well as 10 multi-residence cabins. A ballroom, bistro style restaurant and bar, a spa, fitness room and a conference room will added in the coming months.
