New Costa Rican Tourism Minister Heads For WTM

Costa Rica’s new Tourism Minister, María Amalia Revelo Raventós, will be at WTM London to update the trade about new products and transport links, sustainability and business travel.

Since her appointment in May 2018, she has been promoting tourism with a special focus on culture and gastronomy; and strengthening work between the public and private sectors.

She has more than 40 years of experience in the country’s tourism sector and will be available for interviews at WTM London.

Topics she can talk about include the rising numbers from the UK – up by 2.5% year-on-year in the first half of 2018 to more than 40,000 – and the new Costa Rica Convention Centre which opened in April 2018.

The country’s first purpose-built convention centre aims to position Costa Rica as a serious player in the international events market.

Representing an investment worth $35 million, the new centre can accommodate more than 6,500 delegates and features a host of sustainable features, such as solar panels, water treatment plants, energy-efficient air conditioning and naturally-lit interior spaces with native trees.

The Costa Rica Tourism Board is also highlighting the cleanliness and sustainability of its beaches.

The Blue Flag status was awarded to 107 beaches for 2018 – three more than last year.
