Verdala Wellness Hotel, Malta’s first fully integrated wellness retreat, has quietly opened its doors in the ancient town of Rabat, ushering in a new era of holistic luxury on the island.

Carved into the natural ridge with panoramic views over the valley, this adults-only sanctuary blends refined design with a holistic, 24-hour approach to wellbeing – from restorative sleep environments and wellness-led cuisine to personalised programmes and contemplative practices that promote bioharmonisation.
The five-star boutique hotel, the newest offering from AX Privilege Collection, is led by an experienced team of Maltese experts and has been designed from the ground up for people looking to be physically, mentally, and emotionally nurtured, to experience a renewed sense of self.
At the core of Verdala’s concept is a thoughtfully designed wellness programme that draws on both ancient Maltese wisdom and contemporary science. Built around a five-pillar framework – Nutrition, Movement, Rest & Recovery, Emotional Wellbeing, and Connection – the programme is led by Amber Gauci Ward, Verdala’s Head of Wellness, who has a background in transformational wellness with a specialisation in energetics, bioharmonisation and nervous system healing.
Guests can choose from a collection of immersive retreats. The Signature Retreat weaves exclusive cultural experiences with wellness rituals, while the Seasonal Retreat aligns with Malta’s festas and traditions, designed to harmonise body and mind with the rhythms of nature.
Treatments combine holistic therapies with advanced technologies – from energy-based healing and somatic practices to complementary modalities such as PEMF Therapy and DermaLux Tri Wave LED – creating a balance of ancient practice and modern science.
Inspired by the ‘V’ in Verdala, the hotel’s philosophy guides guests through a progressive exploration of wellbeing, beginning with insightful diagnostics and evolving into a personalised journey enriched by timeless wisdom. This philosophy comes to life at V SPA, a 1,500sqm sanctuary designed for stillness, renewal and balance. With seven treatment rooms, a hammam and steam room, salt cave, saunas, contrast baths, hydrotherapy pool, and restorative lounges, alongside meditation and movement studios, V SPA offers a seamless rhythm of care throughout the day. Curated in partnership with leading global wellness brands including GROUND, Seed to Skin and Preime, it reflects a natural and scientific approach to long-term vitality.
To complement the wellness offering, Verdala features 46 thoughtfully designed rooms, each balancing comfort with understated sophistication. More than just a place to stay, rooms are created for effortless relaxation, with curated wellness bars, vegan guest amenities, and restorative sleep environments.
Verdala’s food philosophy is led by Chef Victor Borg, one of Malta’s most acclaimed culinary figures and the talent behind Michelin-starred Under Grain. Borg and Head Chef Brady Dalli have created menus that are both indulgent and nourishing, rooted in anti-inflammatory principles, seasonality, and locally sourced ingredients.
The hotel offers three distinct dining experiences: The Griffin Brasserie for elevated Mediterranean cuisine, The Ridge Pool Bar for fresh salads, juices and smoothies, and The Living Room Lounge serving botanical cocktails and lighter fare.
A Signature Retreat starts at €2,400 per room for three nights on a full board basis, while a Seasonal Retreat starts at €3,000 per room on a full board basis.
Verdala is just 20 minutes’ drive from Malta International Airport and offers over 300 days of sunshine a year and direct flights from multiple UK cities. For more information or to book visit https://axhotelsmalta.com/verdala-wellness/retreats
