Phocuswright will have two panels at WTM Latin America for discussing the tourism industry

Carolina Sass de Haro and Trícia Neves present trends, new developments, challenges and opportunities for the sector

The Inspire Theatre will be the setting for studies and research presented by Phocuswright during the 7th edition of WTM Latin America, which is the travel industry’s main event and which will be held between April 2nd and April 4th at Expo Center Norte in São Paulo. The executives Carolina Sass de Haro and Trícia Neves, Phocuswright’s representatives in Brazil will present the panels “Consumer trends: Rethinking hospitality” and “Seven Trends, Challenges and Opportunities for Destinations and Tourism Marketers” to the audience. The conferences will take place on April 3rd at 15:15 and April 4th at 14:00, respectively. Access is free and there is a limited number of places.

The panel presented by Carolina provides a discussion of the hotel sector in relation to the needs for adaptation and changes in the face of the transformation of consumers, who are becoming increasingly demanding. Technology, the tool which has revolutionized the way we communicate and relate, will also be addressed during the conference. The executive will present travellers’ preferences and the key trends in the hospitality sector for 2019 and beyond.

Themes such as messaging services and penetration of voice assistants, the strength of OTAs (Online Travel Agencies) and the size of the alternative accommodation market will be covered in the talk, which will also the presentation of a set of unpublished figures about Brazil. Carolina explains that if we compare the global figures and the figures regarding the Brazilian market, there is no disparity in relation to consumer behaviour. “Brazil is accompanying an upward trend in the use of technology to acquire extra services, or even for defining the form of accommodation,” stresses the executive.

The conference given by Trícia Neves, points out the main trends, challenges and opportunities for getting to know and to understand travellers’ behaviour and, as a result of this, to anticipate the creation of marketing strategies that help in the promoting the destination and the tourist’s aspirational desire.

The panel will address macro trends in tourism, such as the use of Blockchain, Asia’s power in global tourism, and China’s strength as a destination, as well, of course, as new, disruptive, experience-oriented forms of contact. There will also be a discussion of an issue rarely considered by the sector: tour and activities. The presentation is based on research results, but mainly on observation data.

“For us, presenting the studies and trends at WTM Latin America is very beneficial for the market as a whole. Providing sessions of knowledge and access to information is very relevant so that, based on concrete data, the market can discontinue the empirical approach and make it easier to make decisions based on information that portrays the market as it is”, emphasizes  Carolina.

In addition to the conferences organized by Phocuswright’s representatives, WTM Latin America envisages more than 30 activities that discuss different aspects of the segment. For Thais Del Ben, WTM Latin America’s marketing manager, the presentation of rich and collaborative content to the market as a whole helps with the professionalization, qualification and development of the industry. “WTM Latin America is committed to contributing to the market’s development. Therefore, the dissemination of quality content and the inclusion of speakers and topics relevant to this transformation are extremely valid and well accepted by the participants”, she added.
