Train company Trenitalia has won a prestigious World Travel Market 2015 World Travel Leaders Award in recognition of its transformation of travel in Italy.
The comapny received the coveted award today (Tuesday 3 November) at the WTM World Travel Leaders Award ceremony. The award was presented by new editor-in-chief L’Agenzia di Viaggi, Roberta Rianna and was collected by Director of International sales & charter at Trenitalia, Maurizio Del Santoro.
The Awards give WTM London’s Official Media Partners – which represent key travel industry media around the world – an excellent platform to congratulate and recognise those companies and individuals which have made significant contributions to travel and tourism in their region or sector.
Three nominations from each of WTM London’s media partners were judged in September by a panel of three, consisting of an independent body, a representative of WTM and the relevant media partner.
In 2010 Trenitalia ordered fifty high-speed trains that changed how Italians, and holidaymakers, travel around Italy. This train, known as The Frecciarossa 1000, Zefiro 300 or ETR.1000, was developed by Bombardier Transportation and Ansaldo Breda and designed by Betone. The train contains four stylish levels: executive, business, premium and standard while the materials that make the train are 93% recyclable and 96.7% renewable.
The first of these trains departed on June 14 2015 and revolutionised how people travel around the country. With Italy boasting so many attractive cities, Trenitalia allows easy, fast and cheap travel between Rome, Milan, Naples, Turin, Florence and Venice to name just a few. For example, the 582.3 km between Rome and Milan can be navigated in just two and a half hours for around 40 euros.
The judges at the World Travel Leaders Awards 2015 realised the effect Trenitalia has on travelling around the country and stated: “For inbound visitors, Italy is seen as a city tourism destination. Now that people can move between the principal cities at even greater speed and comfort is a boost to its operational appeal.”
