 Taking place from 4-8 October 2021, Dcarbonise Week is a virtual sustainability summit investigating the latest developments in renewable and low-carbon energy generation

Harold Goodwin, WTM’s Responsible Tourism Advisor, will help set the agenda for WTM London when he moderates sessions about travel and sustainability during Dcarbonise Week 2021.

Taking place from 4-8 October 2021, Dcarbonise Week is a virtual sustainability summit investigating the latest developments in renewable and low-carbon energy generation, with a focus on the travel and tourism sector on the final day.

The three Dcarbonise Week sessions being moderated by Goodwin on 8 October are:

Taking place at 10am (BST), the session Fossil fuel is why aviation is travel and tourism’s Achilles heel. Expert panellists joining Goodwin are Jane Ashton, Sustainability Director at easyJet;

John Strickland, Director at JLS Consulting; Keith Bushell, UK Environmental Affairs Stakeholder Manager at Airbus; and Adam Freeman, Group Head of Environmental Strategy, MAG.

The session Reducing carbon emissions in the accommodation sector taking place at 11.30am will showcase the best practices in reducing emissions in designing and building new hotels and retrofitting existing properties – and ask: are zero-emissions hotels possible?

Expert panellists joining Goodwin are Eric Ricaurte, of Greenview, Singapore; HC Vinayaka from ITC Hotels, India; and Claire Whitely, of the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance.

The last session taking place at 12:30pm Reducing carbon emissions: tour operators, ground handlers and transport providers, panellists will talk about how they have taken carbon out of their operations.

He said: “With Dcarbonise Week in autumn 2021 and All-Energy & Dcarbonise in May 2022, we will now straddle the all-important COP26 with two key events.”

WTM London Exhibition Director, Simon Press said:

“Harold has developed WTM’s flagship Responsible Tourism programme into a world-leading, preeminent series of events, so I am delighted to see he’s taking such an influential role in Dcarbonise Week.

“The Dcarbonise debates and panellists will raise vital issues for our sector and their insights will help set the stage for further discussion at WTM London.

“As we emerge from the devastating effects of the pandemic, we have to face up to the climate crisis and WTM London is the platform for the global travel and tourism sector to take these urgent issues into 2022 and beyond.”

The WTM London Responsible Tourism sessions will take place during the first day of WTM London (1-3 November), to be followed on the second day by the UNWTO, WTTC & WTM Ministers’ Summit, which has the theme of Investing in Tourism’s Sustainable Future.
